Atlético Madrid and FC Barcelona have reached an agreement for the transfer of María León. The 22 year old from Aragón in Spain will undergo a medical and sign her new contract in the next few hours.
Known as ‘Mapi’ in the footballing world, Léon is a defender who can play at centre half or left back. She stands out for her commitment, ability to play the ball out from the back and her ability in the air.
María León made her debut in the First Division at the age of just 16 with Zaragoza CFF. In 2013/14 the defender featured for Espanyol before heading to Atlético at the end of the campaign. With the Madrid club she was part of last season’s title winning squad and her performances led to place in the Spanish squad for the recent European Championships.
‘Mapi’ Léon becomes Barça Women’s sixth signing of the summer for 2017/18 following in the arrivals of d’Élise Bussaglia, Natasa Andonova, Toni Duggan, Lieke Martens and Fabiana Simoes.
