Barça Studios is still expanding its catalogue of audiovisual products and the latest involves the basketball team. ‘The Court’ is a fly-on-the-wall documentary featuring Sarunas Jasikevicius and his players and is being premiered on Wednesday 11 November on the club’s streaming site, Barça TV+.
The series portrays the day-to-day lives and the more human side of the FC Barcelona basketball team throughout the season. Cameras were allowed inside the Palau Blaugrana to show how a new era was built under Saras Jasikevicius, even filming in the locker rooms to see how they prepare for games, following them on big road trips and taking a closer look at what each of the players are really like. In short, it is a close-up look at the players right in the middle of their season.
The first episode looks back at a 2019/20 season that was so marked by the suspension of all competitions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the total overhaul of the team following the appointment of new coach Jasikevicius. The second episode zooms in on the preseason, including the preseason camp in Comú d’Encamp, Andorra, where the team prepared for the 2020/21 season and played their first game against MoraBanc Andorra. The episode also shows the events surrounding the Super Cup, with the team reaching the final but missing out in the final seconds to Real Madrid following an extremely tight encounter.
The series is being produced by Barça Studios, the club’s audiovisual factory, and consists of six 30-minute episodes that will be appearing as the season progresses and right through to its end.
Pierre Oriola, basketball first team captain
“The Court offers a unique view of what our day-to-day is like. The club wanted to do something so that fans could get a close-up look at the players and that’s a very positive thing. The cameramen were one of us, they came with us to every game, on all our trips … And I think the result gives viewers the chance to be with us in our everyday lives, discovering things about the players and the team that the general public have never got to see before. I hope this documentary reaches a lot of people and that both Barça and basketball fans in general enjoy it.”
