Sergi Roberto and FC Barcelona agree contract renewal through to 2022

The hero of last season's turnaround against PSG will have a buyout clause of 500m euros

FC Barcelona and Sergi Roberto have reached an agreement on a contract renewal, which will keep the player at the Camp Nou through to 30 June 2022. His buyout clause has been set at 500m euros.

The date and venue for his official contract signing event will be announced in the coming days.

Made in La Masia

Sergi Roberto is a La Masia product who joined FC Barcelona from Nàstic de Tarragona aged just 14. After spending time in the youth ranks at Barça, he made his official first team debut on 10 November 2010, in a 5-1 Copa del Rey win against Ceuta at the Camp Nou. He would then continue mixing appearances with the Barça B team and the first team until taking the definitive step up in the summer of 2013.

Sergi Roberto has won every collective honour imaginable at FC Barcelona. The versatile player has been a winner of 4 LaLiga titles, 2 Champions Leagues, 4 Copa del Reys, 4 Spanish Supercopas, 2 European Supercups and 2 Club World Cups. He has made 178 appearances for Barça and scored 7 goals. This season he has been a regular under  Ernesto Valverde, playing 25 games to date.

The hero of the impossible comeback

Sergi Roberto's most memorable moment of his career so far was his role in the Barça vs. PSG game in the Champions League last season. On 8 March 2017, he scored the sixth goal in a tremendous 6-1 victory at the Camp Nou, which allowed FC Barcelona to complete a memorable comeback as they overturned a 4-0 first leg defeat.

The contract renewal for Sergi Roberto follows the announcement of Gerard Piqué's extension, announced on Thursday. Both players have deals that will run through to 2022.
