Luís Garcia rose through the youth ranks at the club. After joining Barça B he left on loan to keep developing as a player at Valladolid, on two occasions, at Toledo and at Tenerife to end up signing for Atlético Madrid in the 2002/03 season. The following year Barça exercised a repurchase clause that made him a blaugrana again in the first year under Frank Rijkaard. He played for one season, 2003/04, as right winger, showing his goalscoring instinct and his skill in some fine performances. However, the stiff competition for that position meant he headed for Liverpool, where he became one of their top players and won the Champions League in 2005. Two years later he returned to Atlético Madrid and continued his career at several other clubs. The striker from Badalona would hang up his boots at the Central Coast Mariners in Australia.
Full biography:
Luis Garcia was a true football globetrotter. He turned out for 12 professional teams after coming out of the Barça youth system and debuting for the first team in October 2003. Valencia visited Camp Nou in week six and came away with a 1-0 win. Luis García came on late in the match as a substitute for Luis Enrique. The Catalan striker became a regular part of the side partnering Saviola, Kluivert and that season’s superstar signing Ronaldinho. In the following season, however, he would finish up leaving for Liverpool under Rafa Benítez, where among other titles he collected the Champions League in that gripping comeback final versus Milan. In the summer of 2007 he entered a new spell at Atlético Madrid to end up at Racing Santander, his last team in the Spanish league. After that his adventures took him all around the world, to Greece, Mexico, India, and he finally retired as a footballer in the Australian league with the Central Coast Mariners.
